OUR CURRICULUM

Louisville Montessori Prep school education sets a foundation for academic success, using individualized instruction and multi-sensory approach to learning. We have a well-rounded and dynamic curriculum that meets the needs of each student through natural curiosity and creativity, and in which each student can be successful.

The materials are self correcting and so the students become comfortable with the fact that errors are essential to the process of learning. A student Is  free to choose any work he/she has been introduced to from the different centers of the classroom. The various areas inside and outside the classroom allow for exploration and cooperative learning.

Practical Life

These simple exercises with attractive and brightly colored objects invite the child to explore and play with them. The child-centered environment fosters and nurtures independence, self-reliance, responsibility, coordination of movement, order and awareness of the environment. This area is also a bridge between home and school, it is a Preparation of Life> Exercises in pouring, hand washing, polishing, table setting etc. develops skills in self-care and care of environment.

Sensorial

Learning is done through the senses! The sensorial area isolates each sense in order to refine it. Children can sort, match r compare objects by size, shape, sound , touch and taste. This not only enhances the child’s power of observation and deduction, but also helps increase vocabulary. The sensorial material lay the foundation for math, reading directionality, geometry, geography, botany, art and music.

Language

Children start acquiring language from the day they are born. Our vocabulary rich language curriculum encourages the Childs natural desire to read, write and communicate. First, children trace sandpaper letter with their fingers and learn the sounds of the letters, providing the child with a visual, tactile and auditory impression of the letter. Next, the child builds words with the moveable alphabet( a box containing cutout letters of the alphabet). At this stage a child is actually sounding out words and spelling –before he/she can read or write! This naturally leads to reading three-letter words, blends and more complex words.

Math

The Louisville math materials are esthetically appealing, precise and simple. They truly help the child move from concrete to abstract thought. Through active hands on manipulation, division, math facts and fractions). Problem solving skills are developed in the math area.

Cultural Studies

Cultural Studies help children understand their place in the universe. The Childs world starts with themselves and their own body awareness, then moves outward to the world at large. With the help of the geography materials, distant lands, diverse cultures and people become a reality. Students explore geography, weather, the calendar, and directionality.

Science and Nature

Young children love nature and are truly intrigued by its mysteries. The study of nature includes the concept o living and non living and introduction to the plant and animal kingdom. Our beautiful gardens are comprised of a butterfly garden, herb garden, vegetable garden and flower garden. Our students maintain and care for the garden, which offers varied experiences to study, explore and get in touch with nature. Simple experiments such as sink and float, magnetic and non magnetic, and color mixing, help children explore he physical properties of matter.

Art

Art encourages the natural desire to create. Students are free to use different mediums watercolor, collage, clay, etc to express their ideas and individuality. Our art program emphasizes the process rather than the product, giving children more freedom to be creative.
